Lieven Vandersypen (Leuven, Belgium, 1972) studied Mechanical Engineering at the KU Leuven and received a MSc and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University (2001). After that Lieven moved to TU Delft, the Netherlands, where he was appointed as Antoni van Leeuwenhoek professor in 2006. Lieven leads a group that pioneered quantum computers based on semiconductor technology. Prof. Vandersypen is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW), was a member of the Young Academy of the KNAW, and is a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). Lieven received the IUPAP Young Scientist Prize for Semiconductor Physics, the Nicholas Kurti European Science Prize, and the Spinoza Prize, the highest scientific award in the Netherlands.
